POS system is stands for "Point of sale". It is a system that manages sales and inventories by collecting data at the point where consumers purchase and pay for retailed products. Registered data such as product names and prices associated with products are transferred to a server, and the data is managed.
In supermarkets and convenience stores, barcodes of products are read by cash registers (POS registers), and the data is read and managed by a store computer for tallying. At railroad stations, the system is used in combination with Mars terminals (ticketing terminals) to tally ticket sales revenue and sales results.
