on-premises
Also referred to as "in-house operation (type)", this refers to operations in which servers and other equipment and facilities are installed in-house for system construction and operation, and are managed by the implementer (e.g., company) itself. Before the emergence of cloud computing-type concepts such as Saas and PaaS, which were made possible by the strengthening and development of Internet connections and the ability to maintain and manage data online, on-premise system construction and operation was the mainstay of the industry. While on-premise systems have advantages in terms of response speed, security, customizability, and visibility, the initial cost of purchasing equipment, resource costs for management, and the difficulty of updating the system have led to a shift in system construction and operation to cloud computing type systems.
